Orthokeratology, also known as OrthoK therapy, is a non-surgical way of managing refractive errors. It involves wearing special corneal molds overnight while you sleep. When you wake up the next morning, you’ll experience clear eyesight throughout the day without needing corrective eyewear.
Here are some health considerations that Dr. Robert Gerowitz, wants you to understand about OrthoK:
Your orthokeratology specialist explains that after a comprehensive eye exam, some experts may still recommend OrthoK for those with higher degrees of myopia. In fact, this procedure may be offered to those with up to -8.00 diopters of myopia.
If you have active dry eye, we will need to treat this problem before starting OrthoK.
Your eyes may require some time to adapt to the orthokeratology molds. It has been our experience that patients see very clearly within the first week of wear. Side-effects and adverse reactions to OrthoK are rare. Keep in mind that the molds require proper cleaning and handling, which will be explained when you receive your custom corneal molds.
